Alabama State Men Finish Fifth at 2026 SWAC Men’s Golf Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (April 15, 2026) — Alabama State University's men's golf team wrapped up competition at the 2026 SWAC Men's Golf Championships, finishing fifth overall after three rounds at the RTJ Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley – Ridge Course in Birmingham, Alabama. 

The Hornets posted a three-round team total of 894 (+30), carding scores of 300 (+12) in round one, 296 (+8) in round two, and 298 (+10) in the final round to secure their top-five finish in the conference standings.

Arkansas–Pine Bluff captured the 2026 SWAC Men's Golf Championship title with a winning score of 876 (+12), holding off Florida A&M and Prairie View A&M. Florida A&M finished second at 880 (+16), while Prairie View A&M took third at 889 (+25).

Individually, Vicente Rodriguez of Alabama A&M earned medalist honors, claiming the individual championship with a 214 (-2) total after rounds of 71, 74, and a tournament-best 69 (-3) in the final round.

Alabama State placed four golfers inside the top 15, led by a strong showing from Robert Woods, who finished tied for sixth overall at 220 (+4). Woods was consistent throughout the tournament, highlighted by rounds of 75, 72, and 73

Close behind was Wesley Bairros Rodrigues, who tied for ninth at 221 (+5). Rodrigues posted rounds of 72, 75, and 74, helping anchor the Hornets' lineup throughout the championship. 

Telmo Sueiro delivered one of the best final rounds of the tournament, firing a 69 (-3) on Wednesday to vault into a tie for 14th at 224 (+8) overall. Sueiro's closing round marked Alabama State's lowest score of the championship. 

Also contributing for the Hornets was Alberto Baños, who finished tied for 26th with a three-round total of 229 (+13)
