GULFPORT, Miss. | Alabama State University placed four student-athletes on the 2026 Southwestern Athletic Conference postseason softball teams announced Monday during the league's pre-tournament awards ceremony in Gulfport, Mississippi. The Hornets earned one first-team selection and three second-team honors following a strong regular season campaign.
Senior catcher Brooke Ramsey highlighted the selections for Alabama State, earning First Team All-SWAC honors after returning from an eraly season iinjury to become one of the Hornets' top offensive contributors. Ramsey played in 35 games with 30 starts and batted .320 with eight doubles, three home runs, and 19 RBI while scoring 22 runs and stealing 12 bases without being caught. In conference play, Ramsey hit .329 with five doubles, two home runs, and 14 RBI.
Alabama State placed three players on the Second Team All-SWAC squad, including infielder Ayana Frank, shortstop Alana Scott, and pitcher Kohana Pousson.
Frank turned in one of the most consistent offensive seasons for the Hornets, batting .321 with three doubles, three triples, one home run, and 24 RBI. In SWAC competition, she elevated her average to .369 with 16 RBI while also going a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts. Frank also ranked among the conference leaders with seven sacrifice bunts.
Scott, a 2026 Preseason All-SWAC selection, delivered an outstanding year at shortstop. She hit .348 with 10 doubles, four triples, six home runs, and 39 RBI while slugging .603. Scott also stole 21 bases and recorded 15 multi-hit games during the season. In conference action, she batted .361 with five home runs and 27 RBI while posting a .750 slugging percentage and a .459 on-base percentage. Scott produced a seven-RBI performance against Alabama A&M and ranked among the SWAC leaders in RBI, hits, at-bats, and stolen bases.
Pousson anchored the Alabama State pitching staff throughout the season and earned SWAC Pitcher of the Week honors twice. The Tampa, Florida native made 33 appearances with 13 starts, compiling a 10-7 record with a 2.97 ERA and a conference-best 100 strikeouts in 122.0 innings pitched. During SWAC play, Pousson went 6-3 with a 2.51 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 61.1 innings. She finished among the league leaders in ERA, opposing batting average, innings pitched, wins, saves, and strikeouts.
Alabama State opens play in the 2026 SWAC Softball Tournament on Tuesday when the Hornets face Prairie View A&M at 6 p.m. in Gulfport.
