QUATRE BORNES, Trianon, Mauritius – Junior forward/midfielder Brooklyn Jheemla, a first-year member of the Alabama State women's soccer team, has been named to the Women's A Team of the Mauritius National Football Association, the organization announced earlier this month.

Jheemla, a transfer from Navarro Community College in Fort Worth, Texas, joins the highest level of soccer in her native country of Mauritius, where she is believed to be the only active NCAA Division 1 soccer player from the East African nation. She will be a member of the squad that is seeking to lock down a spot for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games, set to be held in Los Angeles in 22 months.

"Club M" has reached this point in the qualifying round after a pair of wins over Djibouti – a 2-1 final on June 4, and a 1-0 game four days later. While Ghana, its upcoming foe, hasn't qualified for either the World Cup or the Olympic Games since 2007, it does have a history of being one of the stronger African football programs, making it a challenging task for Mauritius.

The Sainte Croixe, Port Louis native, is the second Alabama State women's soccer player to be called on to represent her country in national play this season, as fellow first-year Hornet Kiana Lopez Wilson recently finished up a three-game stint with Costa Rica's U-20 squad.

The calls from the national squads are just a part of international soccer, something ASU is heavily involved in with 11 international students representing nine different countries – both among the most in NCAA Division 1 soccer.

Jheemla has appeared in 123 minutes across seven matches for the Lady Hornets, making starts in late August outings against Kennesaw State and at Central Arkansas. She has attempted one shot on the year, an on-target shot in the September 6 game at Mercer.

According to the schedule, Jheemla is set to be with Mauritius for the next four ASU games, including the team's Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opener against Alcorn State on Sunday, Sept. 27. Her international travel schedule could see her return for the final stretch of SWAC play, potentially as early as the Texas Southern game on Sunday, Oct. 18.
