Lady Hornets Struggle During Deep South Bowling Tourney

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Alabama State University Lady Hornets went 1-4 Saturday during the Deep South bowling tournament, but rebounded to take three wins in five tries on Sunday.

The Lady Hornets lost to Prairie View A&M, Elizabeth City State, North Carolina A&T and Norfolk State on Saturday, missing vital spares.  Sunday saw ASU claim a 3-2 win during the Bakers set over North Carolina Central, Fayetteville State and Elizabeth City State.

Brittney McKinney and Jackie Longo had the best performances for the Lady Hornets, finishing in the top 20.  Mckinney finished 11th with an 818 pin fall, giving her an average of 163. Longo wasn't too far behind placing 17th with a 784 pin fall and a 156 average.

As a team, the Lady Hornets finished fifth in a field of eight with a total pin fall of 6,862. Norfolk State finished first recording a 7,705 pin fall and an 8-2 mark overall. Prairie View finished second with a record of 9-1 but a total pin fall of 7,531. Fayetteville State was third with a 7,261 pin fall and North Carolina A&T placed fourth with a 6,824 pin fall.

The Lady Hornets will be off until Dec. 4 when they travel to Jackson, Miss., to participate in the Capital
