A&M Defeats Alabama State, 3-1 on Volleyball Senior Night

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Alabama A&M's Clarissa Moore recorded 18 kills on 29 attempts to lead the Bulldogs to a 3-1 victory (18-25, 25-15, 25-16, 25-9) against Alabama State University Oct. 27 at Lockhart Gymnasium. 

 

The Lady Hornets were led by senior Jessica Holt, who registered eight kills and six blocks in her final home match as a Lady Hornet. Senior Anna Meinert and junior Kelsye Hall amassed seven kills each. Meinert also accounted for 24 assists, four digs and two assisted blocks.

 

The first set of the game saw the Lady Hornets dominating the floor, taking a quick 6-0 lead before an attack by A&M's Madina Adbullah. Freshman, Libero Roselande Cornielle, Hall and Sierra Caudle paced the Lady Hornets to the quick start. ASU made few mistakes and easily won the first set of the contest (25-18).

 

The Lady Hornets didn't carry the momentum into the rest of the sets. In game two, AAMU (13-11, 5-0 SWAC) outhit the Alabama State (9-19, 1-3 SWAC) .520 to .125 to spur the Bulldogs to a crushing 25-15 victory. Moore led the way with seven kill on nine attacks. 

 

In game three, the Bulldogs took a 6-0 advantage and never allowed the Lady Hornets to get back into the set, winning 25-16.

 

AAMU continued its dominance in the final game with Moore leading the Bulldogs with six kills, two service aces and one block assist. The collapse that led to a 25-9 game-four win for AAMU put an exclamation point on the last home game of the season for the ASU Lady Hornets.

 

Friday, Oct. 30, the Lady Hornets will be in Lorman, Miss., for a pre-Halloween match against Alcorn State University (0-20, 0-6 SWAC).
