MONTGOMERY – The Alabama State University baseball team dropped a pair of hard-fought one run decisions against in-state rival Alabama A&M at Paterson Field. ASU slipped to 15-20 on the year after falling 4-3 and 6-5 on Sunday afternoon.
In the opening game, the Hornets were held to just four hits over the seven innings of play. T.J. Griggs, Ray Pickering,
Gerald Washington and
Cameron Webman each tallied a hit for ASU. Ron James, Jr., worked a complete game on the mound for Alabama State allowing just eight hits.
ASU rallied from a 5-1 deficit in game two with four late runs to force extra innings. The Bulldogs used back-to-back doubles in the ninth inning to plate the game-winning run.
Darrion Pedro paced the Hornets at the plate in the second contest, going 3-for-5 including a three-run homerun. Pickering , James, Jr., and
Eddie Cole each finished with two hits.
Alabama State returns to action on Tuesday at Kennesaw State at 4 p.m.
