MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- In the final home series of the season, the Alabama State University baseball team dropped both games of Saturday's SWAC doubleheader with Alcorn State falling 8-7 and 7-1 at Paterson Field.
ASU slips to 10-19 overall and 5-11 in SWAC play while Alcorn ups its season mark to 22-21 overall and 13-6 in the league.
In the opener, Alcorn scored in each of the final four innings to rally for the 8-7 win. Five different ASU players recorded multi-hit performances in the contest but the Hornets were unable to hold onto an early lead.
Alabama State used five hits to plate three runs in the second inning. Adrian Snell doubled home a pair of runs before scoring on an RBI-single by Kejuan Riley. The Braves got a run back in the top of the third before Jourdan Mott belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame giving ASU a 5-1 advantage.
Alcorn chipped into the ASU lead with a run in the fourth, but the Hornets answered in the fifth following a solo homerun by
Drew Quinney.
The Braves began their comeback with three runs in the sixth and another run in the seventh. Bama State plated its final run of the game in bottom of the seventh before Alcorn pushed across another run in the eighth and then won the game on Kilby Perdomo's solo homerun in the ninth.
In the second game, Alcorn scored two runs in the first before exploding for five runs in the eighth to secure the doubleheader sweep.
ASU's lone run came in the seventh when
Jordan Mims singled home Reginald Mitchell, who had led off the frame with a triple.
Alcorn's Steve Easter struck out 11 and allowed just six hits in tossing a complete game.
The Hornets and Braves close their weekend series Sunday at 1 p.m.
