Baseball Falls 10-2 at Jackson State in Series Opener

JACKSON, Miss.
– The Alabama State University baseball team dropped its series opener with Jackson State 10-2 despite outhitting the Tigers Friday night at Robert “Bob” Braddy Stadium.

ASU falls to 11-23 overall and 6-17 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference following the loss while JSU improves to 33-14 and 17-5 and maintains its lead atop the Eastern Division standings.

Kejuan Riley, Jordan Mims and Ron James each collected two hits in leading the Hornets at the plate.

Quintavious Drains provided the Tigers with a strong pitching performance tossing a complete game. Drains scattered nine hits while striking out 10.

Jackson State scored a run in the bottom of the first to grab an early advantage.

Bama State grabbed its first lead in the third inning following a two-run double by James. Riley and Mims opened the frame with back-to-back singles in front of James' scoring hit.

JSU regained the momentum with five runs in the fifth and tacked on another run in the sixth for a 7-2 lead. The Tigers added three more runs in the eighth for the final margin of victory.

Alabama State and Jackson State close their weekend series with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at Noon.
