Alabama State Softball Plays Home Opener This Weekend

Montgomery, Ala. – The Alabama State University Softball Team will open their home portion of the season this weekend.  The University of Maryland Eastern-Shore comes to town for a Saturday double header and a single game on Sunday.

The Lady Hornets (0-5) launched the start of their season last week in Birmingham at the All Alabama Classic.  The trip turned out to be a learning curve with ASU losing all five games in the tournament.  “We were able to get five games under our belt which was good for us”.  Head Coach Telma O'Neal said.  “We have had a few days of preparation for this weekend so hopefully we will be ready”.  Coach O'Neal mentioned. 

UMES (1-3, 1-1) enters the contest on a two game losing streak.  Their lone victory came against Barton College. 

“The weather should be terrific this weekend and hopefully our fans will come out and support us”.  Coach O'Neal stated.  First pitch for Saturday's double header is set for 2 pm.  Sunday there will be a single game that gets underway at noon.  This weekend's series will be played at Lagoon Park and admission is free.
