Alabama State Travels to Hattiesburg for EAST vs. West SWAC Round Up

MONTGOMERY, -- The Alabama State University softball team (3-15) travels to Hattiesburg, Miss. to take part in this weekend's Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) round up.  While there, the Lady Hornets will face SWAC west division opponents Prairie View A&M, Texas Southern, Southern University, Grambling State and the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff over the course of the three-day event.

The Lady Hornets open play on Friday afternoon against Prairie View A&M at 4 p.m.  PVAMU has an overall record of 5-13.  On Saturday the Lady Hornets will take on Texas Southern (8-14) at 10 a.m.  TSU has a solid hold on second place in the west conference standings.  Saturday afternoon at 12:30 the Lady Hornets will play Southern University (4-13).

Alabama State is coming off a weekend, which saw them go winless in four games at the University of North Florida Invitational.  Part of the Lady Hornets disappointment was their inability to hold late game leads in close losses against St. Mary's (7-6) and the host team UNF (6-4).

Sophomore Brehanna Rodrigues leads the Lady Hornets offense batting .370 (12-for-17) this season.  Freshman Meagan Dixon has had 13 appearances in games and has a batting average of .407.  She was voted to the Magic City Classic All-Alabama tournament team in February.

The Lady Hornets will finish up the weekend on Sunday against #1 seed in the west, Grambling State University (5-7) at 9 a.m. They will close out tournament play against UAPB (0-12) at 11:30 a.m.
