ASU Drops Two on Second Day of the SWAC Round UP

HATTIESBURG, MS -- The Alabama State University softball team lost two games Saturday on the second day of the Southwestern Athletic Conference round-up held at Tatum Park.  The Lady Hornets lost 10-1 to Texas Southern in its first game and lost an 8-6 decision to Southern University in the second game. 

In game one trailing 5-0 in the top of the third, ASU picked up its lone run in the bottom of the third inning with a single down third base line by Meagan Dixon, while Ayesha Famble singled to the shortstop, scoring Dixon.

Texas Southern answered in the top of the fifth scoring the last five runs for the final margin.

In game two against Southern, the Jaguars opened up with a single down left center scoring off of two sacrifice flies scoring Audrey Phillips giving them a 1-0 edge.

SU came right back in the second inning and scored two more runs to give them a 3-0 lead over the Lady Hornets.

ASU picked up two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a fielder's choice by Dixon, allowing teammates Whitley Golson and Akesia Cloud to score.

In an exciting fifth inning, Southern scored three times, while ASU responded with four runs to tie the score at 6-6.

Southern picked up two more runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good.

ASU returns to action tomorrow for the final day of the SWAC round-up at Tatum Park.  The Lady Hornets will play Grambling State a 9 a.m. and Arkansas Pine Bluff at 11:30 to close out SWAC round up play.
