Softball picks up two wins on final day of SWAC Round-Up

HATTIESBURG, MSOn the closing day of the SWAC Softball Roundup, the Alabama State softball team won its final two games, defeating Grambling 13-5 and Arkansas Pine Bluff 14-10 Sunday at Tatum Park.

Alabama State opened the game with nine runs in the first inning to take a lead the Lady Hornets would not relinquish.  With two outs and one walk Alabama State had seven hits in a row, highlighted by Tiffany Wooden's two-run double.

ASU added a pair of runs in each of the second and fourth innings to win the game in posting 13 runs. Freshman Stephanie Hernandez allowed six hits and five runs in the victory.

In game two, a six-run seventh inning pushed Alabama State to a come-from-behind win over Arkansas Pine Bluff, 14-10.  The Lady Hornets took a quick lead on four hits in the first inning to take a 4-1 lead.  

Arkansas Pine Bluff went on to score in the fourth inning knotting the game at seven runs apiece.  A two-run seventh inning pushed the Lady Lions past ASU, 9-8.

 Hernandez, held UAPB in the seventh to close the game out, 14-10.

The Lady Hornets return to action on Friday, March 25 when they host Alcorn State University.  The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.  The games will be played at Wetumpka's new sports complex.  A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday, March 26 at the same location with the game starting at 1 p.m.
