ASU Softball Splits With Alcorn, Wins Series
Wetumpka, Ala. –The Alabama State (7-19, 4-4) softball team split today's double-header with Alcorn State (11-14, 4-4). ASU took game one 8-7 and lost game two 12-1.
The lady Braves scored three runs in the first inning of game two and four more in the third to eventually apply the mercy rule on the Lady Hornets. Alcorn State led by more than eight runs after five innings and the game at that point was called.
Meagan Dixon ended up getting her first lost of the season as a pitcher. She pitched two innings allowed four runs off of two hits and struck out one batter. Kasey Duncan earned the win for Alcorn pitching all five innings. Duncan gave up three hits, one run and a strikeout.
Alabama State's lone run came when Meagan Dixon scored on a wild pitch in the bottom half of the second inning.
Ayesha Famble gave ASU the victory with a walk-off homerun in the eighth inning for an 8-7 win over the visiting lady Braves. The game was tied at 7 when Famble took the first pitch of the inning over the centerfield fence to seal the deal.
Famble was solid all-around going 3-5 including a pair of homeruns, three runs scored and 2 RBI. Brehanna Rodrigues also had a solid performance. Rodrigues homered once while going 3-4, with 3 RBI and a run scored. Mercedes Frazier finished the day hitting one of her three attempts. She brought in three runners and also hit a solo shot.
Stephanie Hernandez picked up the win for ASU she improved to 6-14 on the season. Hernandez allowed seven runs off of six hits and struck out one batter. Melissa Rubio gets the lost for Alcorn. Rubio allowed eight runs off ten hits.
Next up, Alabama State will face Savannah State next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
