ASU Softball Struggles at Murray State
Murray Ky. – The Alabama State softball team dropped a pair of games at Murray State in a non-conference double-header Wednesday, losing 9-0 in game one and 10-4 in game two.
The Lady Hornets scored first in the series finale when Meagan Dixon doubled down the right field line bringing in Ayesha Famble in the first inning. The Racers responded scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and once more in the bottom half of the second.
Going into the third inning, ASU trailed 3-1 until Macy Rodriguez's two-RBI single scored Famble and Whitley Golson helping the Lady Hornets tie the score 3-3. Famble gave ASU its second lead of the game in the fifth inning when she sent a solo shot out of the park giving the Lady Hornets a 4-3 lead. It was Famble's seventh homer of the season.
The Racers bats heated up in the next two innings scoring a total of six runs to take a commanding lead for the final margin. ASU scored its four runs off of eight hits with Famble going 3-4 with 3 runs scored, one homerun and an RBI. Golson finished going 2-3 with a run scored while Golson notched a pair of hits as well. Macy Rodrigues rounded out the hitting going 1-2 with 2 RBI for ASU.
In game one, Murray State got on the board first with a two-out homerun by Jenna Bradley in the first inning that gave the Lady Racers a 1-0 early lead. Stephanie Edwards repeated Bradley's steps when she drilled the team's second two-out homer this time driving in two runners in the second inning to give MSU a 4-0 lead.
ASU would surrender three more runs in the third inning and two in the fourth extending the deficit to 9-0 before the game was called on the mercy rule. Mercedes Frazier picked up the only hit for the Lady Hornets.
Alabama State drops to 8-30 overall and will return to action in its final conference series at home this weekend against rival Alabama A&M. First pitch from Chisholm Park is set for 6 p.m. Friday and a double-header Saturday that gets underway at 2 p.m.
