ASU Set to Open Conference Play on the Road

The Alabama State University soccer team is set to open conference play with a two game road swing this weekend in Mississippi. The Lady Hornets will first travel to Lorman to face the Alcorn State Braves on Friday, and Saturday, ASU travels to Itta Bena to take on the Mississippi Valley State Devilettes wrapping up this weekend's road trip.

“Obviously the challenges of opening conference play on the road has its perks, but being on the road takes away from the distractions of being on campus,” said Coach Jodie Smith.

Kyla Neale leads ASU in goals scored and points. Lenna Lamas leads the team in shot attempts.

“Last year playing tough non-conference opponents helped us tremendously in conference play and this year I hope to see the same starting with Alcorn,” said Coach Smith.  “Practice has been fairly well this week and I think the ladies understand the challenges they are up against.”

The Lady Hornets will take on Alcorn Friday at 4 p.m. Sunday, Mississippi Valley State plays host to ASU at 1 P.M. from Itta Bena.
