Opening Day at the New ASU Softball Complex Doesn't Set Well

Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Alabama State softball team played in its new home, the ASU Softball Complex Friday evening.  The Lady Hornets fell to the visiting team University of Nebraska Omaha, during the annual Hornets Invitational, 12-4.

“It was exciting to open up in our own stadium today,” said Head Softball Coach Telma Hall.  “We didn't quite get the results that we wanted to (the win), but now that we have gotten over the home crowd shyness,  now I think that we will come out and show everyone exactly what we are made of.”

“The field was completed for this first game and I think it was real important for this field to be ready for our first home contest.  I appreciate the administrators for really making sure that everything was completed.    We have an awesome facility I think its state of the art hands down.  I am truly excited the complex was finished for our first home game.”

The Lady Hornets Meagan Dixon led Alabama State in hits with two hits, one run and one RBI on the day.  Breanna Rodrigues added numbers to the contest with one hit and two runs.

“Our team goals for the rest of the season are to represent Alabama State softball to the fullest.   I think when we go out and show that pride and that confidence when we are representing who we are as Hornets, I think everything else will fall in place.  My goal is for us to make a statement as being Lady Hornets and that the brand of ASU is a brand to be reckoned with.”

Alabama State is on tap to play Saturday against Tennessee State with the first pitch set for noon.  The invitational will continue with a 2 o'clock match-up between Tennessee State and Nebraska Omaha and then ASU will conclude its final contest of the day against Savannah State at 4 p.m.  The final game will feature Tennessee State vs. Savannah State with that pitch starting a 6 p.m.
