ASU Softball Wins

Box Score Box Score  MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – Sosefina Toilolo went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run, and scored two runs as the Alabama State softball team captured its first win of the season with a 4-0 victory over the University of Nebraska Omaha.

“This win was a great redemption for us today and to be able to get our first win here at home made it even better,” head coach Telma Hall said. “I'm glad that the weather held off for us. With it being opening weekend here at home, I think it was a well-needed game to be played to establish our presence here at home.  Sosefina's bat was burning up and she came through today. We are looking for some consistency and looking to keep this momentum going. Patt was great on the mound today. I think this was a much needed win for us to help build momentum. We changed the lineup a little, but the main thing was, the coaching staff gave the ladies a pep talk and told them we had to protect our home.

Bailey Patt went five innings allowing four hits and striking two while facing 19 batters. Amanda Gracia added two innings, striking out one hitter and allowing only two hits.

With no outs and Brehanna Rodrigues on first base after being hit by a pitch, Toilolo hit a two-run homer to take the early lead 2-0 and the Lady Hornets never looked back.

With two out and runners on second and third, Mercedes Frazier singled to center field scoring Rodrigues to take a 3-0 lead. Toilolo would score her second run of the game off a Frazier single to left field capping the scoring.

Rodrigues went 2-for-2 with a bunt single to second and a single to left field, while Frazier added a 2-for-3 performance on the day.

The other games scheduled for today has been cancelled.

Alabama State will next travel to Woodstock, Ga. Friday, Feb. 24-26 to participate in the Kennesaw State Tournament.
