ASU Softball Rallies to Defeat Eastern Kentucky

Box Score Box Score WOODSTOCK, Ga. – The Alabama State softball team rallies to record its second win of the season at the Twin Creek Complex in Woodstock, Ga. over Eastern Kentucky 6-4 today.
 
“The girls played against a good program today in Eastern Kentucky,” ASU head coach Telma Hall said. “I'm proud that we put it all together today, from our pitching, to our defense, and our hitting. The bats are now starting to warm up and I'm happy about that.”
 
The Lady Hornets (2-10) trailed 2-0 in the second inning when EKU's Shannon McQueen doubled to left centerfield to score Katie Tackett and Carissa Reisinger.
 
ASU would continue to fall behind the Colonels (6-3) going into the top half of the fourth 4-0 collecting homers from Raquel Howes and Tackett.
 
Alabama State would not stay down for long recording a double from Brehanna Rodrigues to left field in the fourth. Sosefina Toilolo, Courtney Crossley, and Meagan Dixon all added singles to score Rodrigues from second. With the bases loaded and no outs, Stephanie Hernandez scorched a grand slam to left center to give ASU a 5-4 lead.
 
In the top of the seventh, ASU would cap its scoring off an EKU error to make the score 6-4.
 
Bailey Patt went 4 1/3 innings in relief pitching, giving up only one hit to collect the win for ASU.
 
“Bailey had an outstanding outing for us today by getting us back in the game,” said Hall.  “Stephanie added a big spark for us offensively hitting a grand slam. I'm proud of all the girls for coming through today and stringing together what we as a coaching staff been trying to teach day in and day out.”
 
Crossley went 2-for-4 to lead Alabama State offensively. Rodrigues, Toilolo, Hernandez, Dixon, Breeya Wright, and Ayesha Famble all collected hits in the win.    
 
The Lady Hornets will travel back to Woodstock, Ga. Friday, March 2-4 to compete in the Georgia Buzz Classic, hosted by Georgia Tech. ASU is slated to face Furman at 11 a.m. and at 1:30 p.m. Southeastern Louisiana in a double-header.
