Box Score 2 NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Alabama State softball team takes one-of-two games from Tennessee State winning the first game 4-3 and dropping the second 8-5 at Tiger Field today.
“We have to get in a position and be able to excute and come through in clutch situations at this level,” head coach Telma Hall said. “That's going to come from mental confidence and control. You have to expect the big situations, and that's what D-1 athletics is all about. We didn't come when we need to nor stop the bleeding early enough to give ourselves a chance to stay in the game.”
The Tigers (6-12) drew first blood scoring three runs off two errors and four hits recorded in the bottom of the first inning.
Kim Ross scored the Lady Hornets (3-18) first run of the ballgame off a throwing error by TSU making it a 3-1 contest.
Meagan Dixon started a three-run rally for ASU in the seventh, hitting a single to left field. Ross added a single, placing runners on first and second base. A single to right center from
Mercedes Frazier scored Dixon. With the bases loaded,
Brehanna Rodrigues recorded a two-run double in the inning to give Alabama State its first lead of the game and capping the score at 4-3.
Bailey Patt pitched a complete game, gifting Tennessee State six hits, three strikeouts, and no earned runs.
“Bailey pitched a heck of a game going 2 ½ games for us today,” said Hall. “I think she gave us every opportunity to win while she was in the game. We now have to get to the point to where everyone's feeding off each other at the same time.”
In game two, the Lady Hornets opens the contest scoring two runs off two hits and an error by TSU.
Tennessee State scored seven runs in the bottom half of the first inning to take a 7-2 lead.
A two-out single off the bat of
Sosefina Toilolo scored
Meagan Dixon from third base.
Brehanna Rodrigues and Toilolo went 2-for-3 adding two runs and two RBI to lead the Lady Hornets. ASU scored three more runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to cap the scoring at 8-5.
