The Alabama State baseball team opens a four-game homestand Wednesday when the Hornets host the Troy Trojans at 6 p.m. at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
Gameday Central will have links to live stats and live video. The game will be video streamed live for $5.95 or fans can take advantage of the
Spring Sports Package, which includes both baseball and softball games for $24.95.
The Hornets (10-17 overall, 5-4 SWAC) are coming off a SWAC series win at Mississippi Valley State which left the Hornets tied for second in the SWAC Eastern Division with Alcorn State, who ASU will face this weekend.
Alabama State has continued to show improvement in the past two weeks, winning six of its last 10 games, five of them on the road. The Hornets are batting .333 as a team in that time, and have been quick on the base paths, stealing 46 bases in 51 attempts.
This week's midweek opponent Troy is another in the list of quality teams Alabama State has faced this season. Entering Tuesday's game vs. Jacksonville State with an 11-11 record, the Trojans have posted wins over then #28-ranked Southern Mississippi in February and a shutout victory over Alabama last week.
“The reason we want to play good teams is for us to get better,” head coach
Mervyl Melendez said. “Win, lose or draw, we have to get something from it. I have a lot of respect for what (Troy Head Coach) Bobby Pearce has done. What he has done at Troy has been unbelievable. That is a good, good baseball program and you can't say enough about what he's done. We get tested tomorrow. That's the bottom line. I think if we do the things we are able to do well and have been doing well, we should have a pretty good ball game.”
