Hornets, Jackson State Game Halted

Box Score
MONTGOMERY – Sunday's Alabama State – Jackson State baseball game was halted in the top of the eighth inning.

In the hotly contested third game of the series with Jackson State leading 2-1, Alabama State pitcher Greg Matthews was ejected after throwing the second pitch of the at bat to JSU's Desmond Russell. Tempers flared from both dugouts and the game was halted by the home plate umpire.

The Southwestern Athletic Conference office will decide further on the outcome of the game. No timetable has been set.

Alabama State scored in the second inning. Leo Rojas led off with a double and later advanced to third on a fielder's choice. Marcus Swint's infield single scored Rojas for a 1-0 Hornets' lead.

Jackson State tied the score with a run in the third and took the lead on a run in the seventh inning.

The Hornets return to action Friday when they play at the University of Oklahoma in a three-game series. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
