Lady Hornets Swept by Jackson State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State softball team was swept by the Jackson State Lady Tigers on Saturday, losing game one 9-4 and game two 5-2.
 
“We made some mental mistakes out there today,” head coach Telma Hall said. “We need to be able to produce runs when our pitchers are keeping us in games.”
 
The Lady Tigers (27-23 overall/ 10-3 SWAC) opened the game recording three runs in the first and collected another in the top half of the fifth inning.
 
ASU (12-31 overall/7-6 SWAC) scored its first run of the game off a single to left field by Whitley Golson to bring home Meagan Dixon. Ayesha Famble led off the fifth inning with a single to left field. After stealing second base and a Brittnei Price bunt single, Famble scored off a wild pitch by Jamerson. The Lady Hornets recorded four runs in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead over JSU.
 
Jackson State added a run in the sixth to knot the game back up at 5-all. The Lady Tigers rallied to score four more runs in the eighth to take the 9-4 win in game one of the double-header.
 
In game two, the Lady Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead over ASU in the first inning.
 
The Lady Hornets tied the game at 2-all in the bottom half of the third, but JSU responded back in the top half of the fourth adding three more runs to take a 5-2 lead.
 
Alabama State will host Mississippi Valley State in a three game series Friday, April 27 beginning at 6 p.m. There will be an official field dedication ceremony for Barbara Williams at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 27 at the softball field on the campus of ASU.
