ASU Softball Splits Double-Header With Alcorn

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LORMAN, Miss. – The Alabama State softball team split in a double-header with Alcorn today, dropping game one 4-3 and topping the Lady Braves in game two 8-0 in six innings of work.

“It was a rough, but necessary win,” head coach Telma Hall said. “We must always go on the field ready to dominate.  We made some adjustments the third game that we attempted to make in the second.  I am glad we finally were able to execute those adjustments, but we must make them a lot quicker than we did moving forward. We must become a more aggressive team at the plate. That's a must as we get later in the season.”

The Lady Hornets (12-25 overall, 7-3 SWAC) rallied to score the first two runs of the game off a muffed fly ball by the second baseman off the bat of Ayesha Famble in the first inning.

ALCN (8-25 overall, 2-8 SWAC) recorded two runs off errors made by the Lady Hornets in the first and the third innings.

ASU added another run in the fourth, making the score 3-2.

The Lady Braves tied the game in the fifth inning at 3-all, scoring Nikki Givens from third off a sacrifice fly to center by Bianca Armstrong. Alcorn State scored in the bottom of the seventh to take the 4-3 win over ASU in game one.

Alabama State opened game two scoring two runs off a wild pitch in the first. ASU then recorded two more runs off a triple by Brehanna Rodrigues to left center, scoring Yvette Ducoing and Mercedes Frazier in the top of the second inning.

Famble registered an inside the park homer, bringing home Whitley Golson on the hit to right center field making the score 7-0 in the fourth inning.

The Lady Hornets added one last run in the sixth capping the score at 8-0.

Alabama State will travel to Cullowee, North Carolina on Thursday, April 12 to face Western Carolina in a double-header beginning at 4 p.m.
