ASU Softball Defeats UAPB 7-2

Box Score IRONDALE, Ala. – The Alabama State softball team defeated the University of Arkansas Pine-Bluff  Lady Lions 7-2 on Friday at the Shea Brothers Softball Complex in Irondale, Ala. on day two of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament. ASU advances to face the loser of the Jackson State/ Texas Southern matchup, Saturday at 2 p.m.
 
“We took one pitch at a time and let the game play in our favor today,” head coach Telma Hall said. “We were hitting the ball again today and played good defense. Hopefully, we can stay consistent and keep the same intensity and momentum we had today throughout the rest of the tournament.”
 
The Lady Hornets (13-38) scored their first run off a two out Meagan Dixon blast to straight-away centerfield. After a Kim Ross double to left field, ASU added another run in the first inning off a throwing error by the third baseman, to take a 2-0 lead over UAPB.
 
Mercedes Frazier doubled in the second bringing Brehanna Rodrigues around to score. Alabama State recorded another run in the second, making the score 4-0.
 
The Lady Hornets rallied to score two more runs in the third to make the score 6-0.  
 
The Lady Lions scored their first run on a homer to left field and added another run to make the score 6-2 ASU.
 
ASU added an insurance run in the seventh, capping the 7-2 victory.
