“Our guys played hard and Jackson State played hard as well,” head coach Lewis Jackson said. “We had several opportunities to put the game away in regulation with a six or seven point lead and we did not do the things good teams do to close games out. We were doing things in the last 10 minutes of regulation where we were not running our offense properly.”

“It was a hard fought game and we came on the road and we can't ask any more from the guys because they stayed in the game and they battled and battled.”

The Hornets were able to build their 10-point halftime lead (36-26) on the strength of five three-pointers compared to only one for JSU.

The balanced scoring actually started in the first half as seven of the nine Hornet players that saw action got into the scoring column, led by Philip Crawford's nine points and Middlebrooks and Butler's eight each.

ASU held JSU to 42 percent shooting in the first half, but the home-standing Tigers were able to our rebound ASU 21-12, and that included eight offensive rebounds that led to several second chance points.

The Hornets will be back in Montgomery to begin a three-game conference home stand when they host Mississippi Valley State on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 5 p.m.
