Box Score The Alabama State University soccer team defeated the Alcorn State Lady Braves 5-0 Friday afternoon at Jack Spinks Stadium on Alcorn State's Campus.
"For us to come out with a win in the conference opener in a place we've struggled at in the past says a lot." Head Coach
Jodie Smith said.
The Lady Hornets (6-6 overall/1-0 SWAC) scored at the 12th minute mark of the contest when
Anastasia McCleary scored from 10 feet out off an assist from
Ariela Lewis.
Aaliyah Lewis scored in the 14th minute, in the 30th minute with an assist from
India Pleasant and again in the 53rd minute off an assist from her sister Ariela. This game gives Lewis her third hat trick this season.
Alena Salsberg scored her first goal of the season in the 73rd minute to give the Hornets the 5-0 Advantage.
"Aaliyah keeps making plays for us" said Smith. "She's been scoring the goals lately and it shows how the rest of the team is finding her. It shows that we are controlling the ball as a team and getting good touches."
With the win, Alabama State opens up conference play on the right foot, heading in to Sunday's match at Mississippi Valley.
"Every conference game is going to be tough." said Smith. "We're really going to have to step it up, this game will be a lot harder so we will have to cut back on the mistakes."Â
