Runners Left in Scoring Position Doom Lady Hornets

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Alabama State Softball team was defeated by Belmont 7-0 and by UNC Greensboro 4-0 during day one of the Hornet Invitational on Friday evening.

“We didn't hit,” Head Coach Telma Hall said. “We are going to have to be able to perform at home. I don't know what it is about home, but we should be comfortable and we're not comfortable. I don't know if we're comfortable or too comfortable, but whatever it is, we have to find something to get the chemistry and atmosphere collaborating for us to get home wins.”

“Melissa did a great job towards the last game against UNC Greensboro. We just have to be able to back it up and put all aspects together and play some defense. We can't have the offense working and not the defense or vice versa. We are looking for a 360 completion to get us a win.”

The Lady Hornets (0-7 overall) had an off day at the plate, producing only six hits on the day.

Senior Brittnei Price went 2-for-5 while junior Meagan Dixon went 2-for-7 to lead the Alabama State. Senior Brehanna Rodrigues and junior Stephanie Hernandez also added a hit for the Lady Hornets during game one against Belmont.

Throughout the day, Alabama State left 15 runners combined in scoring position.

The Lady Hornets will play host to Eastern Illinois at 1 p.m. and will host Belmont at 6 p.m. Saturday, February 16 day two of the Hornet Invitational at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.
