Hornets Suffer First Loss

MOBILE, Ala. – The Alabama State suffered its first loss of the season to South Alabama, 15-4 Wednesday night at Stanky Field.
 
A 10-run fifth inning did in the Hornets to break open a 5-1 game. Alabama State (4-1) committed a season-high five errors and hit six batters in losing to the Jaguars (4-0).
 
Richard Amion had three hits, scored a run, and drove in a run, and Richard Gonzalez had two hits to lead Alabama State.
 
Branden Castro scored on a two-out error in the second inning to tie the score at 1-1. However, South Alabama scored two runs in the third, and two in the fourth, before the big fifth inning.
 
Alabama State added two runs in the seventh on an Amion RBI single, scoring Marcus Swint, and a sacrifice fly by Raul Perez, scoring Emmanuel Marrero.
 
The Hornets continue their four-game road trip in the Major League Baseball Urban Invitational in Houston, Texas. Alabama State will face Prairie View A&M Friday at 6:30 p.m., Southern Saturday at 4 p.m. on MLB Network, and Texas Southern Sunday at Noon.
