Tennis Heads to Baton Rouge for SWAC West Roundup

The Alabama State Men's and Women's tennis team will travel to Baton Rouge to compete in the Southwestern Athletic Conference West Roundup on Friday, February 22 beginning at 9 a.m.

“I feel that the men are ready to compete,” Head Coach Anuk Christiansz said. “We have had some good competition that will help us during conference play. We don't have a lot of depth on either side and they all know they have to step up.”

Locations for the two day event are: Southern University Courts, Highland Park Tennis Center, Greenwood Park Tennis Center, and Independence Park Tennis Center.

The Hornets (2-4 overall) have dropped their past three matches, two of which were at home to Jacksonville State and Kennesaw State, 1-6.  The men are led by Bobby Brand and Lex Pierre in doubles and in singles, Roderick Williams.

The Lady Hornets (0-6 overall) are off to a slow start in the win column but have been competing at a high level against their opponents. ASU has played stiff opponents such as Auburn, Kennesaw State, and Jacksonville State to name a few. The ladies are led by Arantxia Wijngaarde and Nathalie Lorenco in doubles competition, which have a two game winning streak.
