Lady Hornets to Host UAB Blazers

The Alabama State softball team will host the University of Alabama at Birmingham in a mid-week doubleheader on Tuesday, March 19 at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.

“Playing UAB is always good competition for us,” head coach Telma Hall said. “A measuring tool I might add. We played well against Samford for the most part. Our pitching has stepped up in the past couple of games.”

“Attention and focus has been keen on getting better and stronger with each play and most important, have the killer instinct when we have runners in scoring position. Nothing about our schedule is easy. We are always prepping for the next step. Winning our first conference championship is what we come out here for every day.”

The Lady Hornets are coming off a 3-0 loss to Samford on last Tuesday evening. Solid pitching from sophomore hurler Desyni Valencia, who went three innings, gave up only four hits; while freshman pitcher Melissa Christmann allowed only one run on four hits in four innings of work led ASU in the efforts.

As a team, the Lady Hornets have posted a .205 batting average, including 106 hits, 32 runs scored, eleven doubles, three triples, 26 RBI, and a homer.

The Blazers are bringing a two-game winning streak into Tuesday's contest after taking two out of three games over conference rival Eastern Carolina this past weekend.
