The Alabama State women's softball team will head to Longview, Texas to participate in the annual SWAC round-up.
This will give the Lady Hornets an opportunity to play against opponents on the west side of the conference such as Prairie View A&M, Texas Southern, Arkansas Pine Bluff, Grambling and Southern.
Alabama State will look to improve their record over the three day weekend of play. These games will be important to the Lady Hornets to see where they will fare in the conference. The Lady Hornets has not done too well thus far this season in non-conference play.
“The round-up is important,” said head coach Telma O'Neal Hall. “We are really going into it with great expectation for a season turn around. This was the point last year were we used the round-up for momentum and turned our season around.”
The Lady Hornets are expecting to step up as a unit and get back on track during the round-up. Pitching and hitting will be the key to getting Alabama State where they want to be.
“We are going to need everyone to step up,” O'Neal Hall said. “It's going to take everyone working together in order for us to get on track. That was the change we made last year and that was everyone taking the charge and play their role. It's going to take everyone who stepped on the bus and that will step off the bus. That's from coaches to members of the support staff to players. We need to support one another and be on task from beginning to end.”
Alabama State will face Prairie View in the opening round at 4 p.m. at the Lear Softball Complex.
