Softball Falls to St. Louis and Nebraska Omaha During Tiger Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Alabama State softball team fell to St. Louis 4-2 and to Nebraska (Omaha) 6-1 during day two of the Tiger Classic on Saturday morning.

“We played better as a team today,” Assistant Coach Kevin Montgomery said. “We still made a few mistakes but we didn't fall apart. We finally got a few hits today. We just didn't get the timely ones.”

The Lady Hornets (1-19 overall) opened the third inning with a hit by pitch and a trio of singles to plate two runs, making it a 3-2 ballgame.

The Billikens (6-7) scored runs in the second, third and sixth inning, capping the 4-2 ballgame.

Brehanna Rodrigues went 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead ASU in the effort. Bailey Patt, Tamara Williams, and Kim Ross added a hit each. Meagan Dixon went 1-for-3 with two RBI in the contest.

Rodrigues went 2-for-3 in the second game, including a double in the third and a single in the fifth. Patt and Williams also added a double each in the fourth and fifth innings, but failed to score.

“I'm happy that Bailey and Tamara stepped up today in the second game,” said Montgomery. “We have to get better at being focused at the plate and find ways to drive more runs in as well.”

The MAVS (20-2) plated runs in the second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, capping the 6-1 contest.

The Lady Hornets will wrap up the final day of the Tiger Classic facing host team Tennessee State on Sunday, March 10 at 3:30 p.m.
