Hornets Lose At Troy

Box Score
TROY, Ala.  – The Alabama State baseball team lost at Troy 10-3 Tuesday night at Riddle-Pace Field.

The Hornets (18-13) started fast with single runs in each of the first two innings. Richard Amion doubled to left field to lead off the game. After moving to third with one out, Amion scored on a wild pitch to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead.

Alabama State scored again in the second. Emmanuel Marrero, who reached on a fielder's choice, scored on an RBI double down the left field line by Einar Muniz to give the Hornets a 2-0 lead.

From there, Troy took control with two runs in the third, taking advantage of a pair of Alabama State errors. The Trojans took the lead with five in the fourth, and two in the sixth to break the game open.

Alabama State scored its final run in the eighth as Einar Muniz scored on a wild pitch.

Michael Tellado made his first career start, allowing two runs and one hit as he pitched into the third inning.

“We jumped to a 2-0 lead, and Tellado did a good job,” head coach Mervyl Melendez said. “He was on a pitch count. I probably left him in one inning too long, but he battled. He earned the right to come out for the third inning. Relief pitching didn't do the job, and I thought our bats got worse and worse throughout the game. We have to get back to the drawing board. We have to have better at-bats as the game progresses. I thought we gave up when they scored five runs in the fourth, so we have to be stronger mentally.”

The Hornets host Georgia State Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
