Hornets Lose Finale At Jackson State

JACKSON, Miss.  – The Alabama State baseball team lost at Jackson State 15-4 in seven innings in the final game of the three-game series Sunday at Braddy Field.
 
Jackson State (22-18 overall, 16-5 SWAC) regains sole possession of first place in the SWAC's Eastern Division, ahead of Alabama State (26-18, 15-6). Despite the loss, the Hornets won the season series from the Tigers four games to two.
 
The Tigers scored two runs in the first inning, four in the fourth, and broke the game open with a nine-run sixth inning.
 
Alabama State scored a run in the first inning on a two-out RBI single by Richard Gonzalez, scoring Raul Perez, who led off with a double. The Hornets added three runs in the seventh on an RBI walk by Waldyvan Estrada and an RBI hit by pitch to Dillon Cooper, both occurring with the bases loaded, as well as a wild pitch.
 
The Hornets will play their final home game of the season against UAB Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
