The Alabama State softball team (11-29 overall, 8-4 SWAC) travels to Jackson State (23-27, 10-4) for a weekend series at JSU Field in Jackson, Miss. beginning on Friday, April 26 with a single game at 6 p.m. and on Saturday, April 27 a double header starting at noon.
“I am proud of the ladies and their play during the month of April,” Head Coach Telma Hall said. “They have really stepped up in and out of conference play. Hopefully, we can continue playing well throughout the rest of the season and finish up strong, before heading to the tournament next month.”
“I'm very proud of our pitching staff for keeping us in games and working hard these past nine games. We still have to be more consistent at the plate and continue playing errorless ball.”
The Lady Hornets are coming off a 3-2 loss to Florida A&M in Tallahassee, Fla. on Wednesday evening. ASU has a six game winning streak in conference play, sweeping Alcorn State and Alabama A&M back in March.
As a team, ASU now holds a .247 batting average, with 238 hits, 122 runs scored, 101 RBI, 26 doubles, eight home runs, and eight triples. In conference play, the Alabama State softball team is led by junior
Meagan Dixon, who has recorded a .538 batting average, including 21 hits, 16 RBI, 12 runs, three home runs, two doubles, and two triples. Dixon has collected six stolen bases as well.
The Lady Hornets have 65 stolen bases on the season as a team and is led by senior
Brehanna Rodrigues with 32 (2
nd in Conference).
