Softball Drops Series at Jackson State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 JACKSON, Miss. – The Alabama State softball team was swept by the Southwestern Athletic Conference Eastern Division leaders Jackson State 14-6 in the first game and 16-9 during game two on Saturday evening.
 
Game 1: Alabama State 6 vs. JSU 14
The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first, before adding eight runs in the second to take a 12-0 advantage.
 
The Lady Hornets recorded two runs in the top of the third, making it a 12-2 ballgame. JSU scored two more runs in the bottom half of the inning, taking the 14-2 lead.
 
ASU rallied back in the fifth scoring four runs lifted by a three-run homerun off the bat of Stephanie Hernandez down the left field line, but it wasn't enough to get back in it, dropping the game 14-6 in five innings.
 
Game2: ASU 9 vs. Jackson State
Alabama State took a 3-0 edge over the Lady Tigers, before JSU recorded seven runs in the bottom of the third to take a 7-3 advantage over ASU.
 
The Lady Hornets regained the lead in the fifth adding two runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth, making it a 9-8 ballgame.
 
Jackson State recorded eight runs in the sixth inning to cap a 16-9 ballgame.
 
Brehanna Rodrigues went 5-for-8 and added a run to lead the Lady Hornets.
 
Alabama State will finish its conference series with Mississippi Valley State on Thursday, May 2 at the MVSU Softball Field in Itta Bena, Miss.
