Box Score The Alabama State softball team defeated in-state rival and conference foe Alabama A&M 1-0 during game one of its three-game series at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex on Friday evening.
“I think the girls came out with great intensity tonight after being on the road for so long,” Head Coach Telma Hall said. “We still have to be more poised at the plate with our approach and begin collecting more hits on a consistent basis. The girls have been working hard all week preparing for this series and it shows.”
“Again, it's always good to get that first game of a series, but we have two more tomorrow that we need win. I figure the girls will come back tomorrow as focused as they were today and be prepared to win the series.”
The game got off to a slow start until the fourth inning when freshman catcher
Aleesa Yanez hit a blooper into right center bringing freshman
Makayla Webster around to score from second base to give the Lady Hornets a 1-0 lead. The one run lead was enough to overwhelm the Lady Bulldogs.
Senior
Bailey Patt pitched a complete game, giving up only five hits and two walks while striking out four.
“Bailey did a tremendous job keeping A&M off the board tonight,” said Hall. “I'm very proud of her effort and the way she maintained her poise out there on the mound.”
