GREENVILLE, Miss. - The Alabama State baseball team rallied with two runs in the ninth inning and three in the 10th to defeat Mississippi Valley State 6-5 Saturday night at Legion Field.
Trailing 5-3,
Dillon Cooper walked to lead off the ninth. Following a strikeout,
Marcus Swint struck out but reached base on a throwing error by the catcher, allowing pinch runner
Edgardo Rivera to score. Following a fly out that advanced Swint to third with two outs,
Richard Gonzalez' RBI double to left center field scored Swint to tie the score at 5-5.

th,
Dexter Price was hit by a pitch and
Derrick Sanders walked to lead off the inning. Following a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third, Price was thrown out trying to score on a bunt attempt. With two outs, Amion's bunt single down the third base line scored Sanders from third with the winning run.
Jorge Pantoja (3-2) pitched the final two innings to earn the win. Starter T.J. Renda went eight innings, scattered 12 hits, and allowed five runs, four earned, with one walk and nine strikeouts. Gonzalez, Estrada and Cooper each had two hits for Alabama State, while Gonzalez and Estrada each had two RBI.
The start time of the game was moved twice due to field conditions and eventually started at 6 p.m. Trailing 1-0 after two innings, the Hornets scored three in the third. Gonzalez' two-out single to right field scored Cooper, and Estrada's two-run single to left field scored Amion and Gonzalez for a 3-1 Alabama State lead.
Alabama State (28-23 overall, 16-6 SWAC) clinched the second seed in the SWAC's Eastern Division earlier Saturday when Alcorn State lost to Alabama A&M 15-13 in 11 innings. The Hornets and Delta Devils (5-39, 1-17) will play a doubleheader Sunday beginning at noon. Both games will be broadcast live online at bamastatesports.com/showcase.
