Women’s Hoops Extends Home Win Streak Aganist Rams

-Montgomery   The Alabama State Women's basketball team got off to an impressive 21-3 start and never looked back, as they defeated the University of Mobile, 66-30 Friday night at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
 
"I felt we got out to a great start," head coach Freda Freeman-Jackson. "I thought our girls did a good job as far as playing with a lot of passion in the first half. In the second half I felt we made a few mental mistakes because we were satisfied with our success but, was able to close out the game on a positive note."
 
The Lady Hornets shot 39.7 percent from the field hitting 23 of 58 shot attempts on the night. ASU (4-5) held the Rams offense in check throughout the contest as they closed the game shooting 11 for 58 (19%) on the night.
 
Junior center Jasmine Peeples finished the game with her third double-double of the season, as she had 12 points along with 11 rebounds. Sophomore forward Britney Wright finished with a game-high 13 points leading all scorers along with ten rebounds earning her second on the season. This marks the duo's fifth career double-double. Sophomore forward Danielle Ewert added 10 points and senior guard Tabitha Bradshaw added nine points along with a game-high seven assist to round out ASU's home victory.
 
"I felt good about Jasmine's performance," said Freeman-Jackson. "She is a double-double type athlete, very athletic and quick off the bounce, covering a lot of ground and played well tonight."
 
Alabama State went into the halftime leading the Lady Rams 39-9 despite shooting 14 for 34 from the field (41.2%) in the first half. The Lady Hornets defense dominated, as they held the Rams to just 12% from the field shooting 3 for 25.
 
Wright led all scorers with 11 points shooting 4 of 5 from the field by the end of the first half.
 
Jammieca Hudson scored 10 points to lead the University of Mobile.
 
Alabama State will return to action Sunday, December 21, at noon when they will travel to Birmingham to take on Samford University.
