Softball Has Tough Day Two

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Alabama State softball faced Western Illinois and South Dakota State on the second day of the Central Arkansas Invitational.
 
Alabama State (1-10) fell to Western Illinois in their first game of the day.  The Hornets Struck first with a single run when Yvette Ducoing scored on a Diauna Nelson single, but the Hornets were unable to hold the Leathernecks as they scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning. In the top of the second Valerie Centeno hit a two run homer to left center. The Leathernecks would go on to score ten more runs to close out the game, defeating the Hornets 15-3.
 
The Lady Hornets second game saw Alabama State striking first against South Dakota scoring a run in the top of the first inning when Centeno scored on a single by Aleesa Yanez before the Jackrabbits answered back in the third. Meagan Dixon hit a home run in the fourth inning to give the Hornets a 2-1 lead but once again the Jackrabbits struck back scoring three runs in the bottom half. The Lady Hornets didn't give up as they answered back with two more runs.
 
In the fifth inning Jasmine James and Dixon both scored on a fielding error before the Jackrabbits scored two runs. In the seventh the Hornets put up five runs two which came on throwing errors, a two run homer from Makayla Webster and a solo shot by Kendall Core. The Jackrabbits would score a single run to win the game 10-9 over the Hornets.   
 
The Lady Hornets will head to Birmingham for the Tiny Laster Classic March 1-2 and will face Savannah State, Miles, and Florida A&M.
