Box Score 2 Alabama State softball opened up play in the Central Arkansas Invitational falling in their first game of the day to Drexel 13-3, while dropping game two to Central Arkansas 18-3.
The first game saw the Lady Hornets taking on Drexel to start the day. Drexel started off early by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first off of two hits and two errors. With a scoreless second inning Drexel struck again in the third giving them a 9-0 lead. In the top of the fourth the Lady Hornets was able to get on the boards on a Yvette Duciong reaching base on a fielder's choice and scoring later in that inning. With two outs and
Raven Walker on third,
Jazzmin Romero reached on a fielder's choice allowing Walker to score. The Hornets will only score one other run but it wouldn't be enough to make a comeback as they fell to Drexel.
In the Lady Hornets second game of the day they faced the invitational hosts Central Arkansas. Central Arkansas came out hot as they scored eight runs in the top of the first inning. The Hornets got a run on the board when
Meagan Dixon hit a double to right field to score
Valerie Centeno. Central Arkansas will strike back with two runs in the top of the second but the Hornets answered back with a run of their own. In the top of the third Arkansas put up seven runs but in the bottom half of the frame
Meagan Dixon blasted a homerun over the left field fence making it her third on the season. The Lady Hornets fell to Central Arkansas 18-3.
Alabama State will be back in action tomorrow as they face Western Illinois at 1:30 p.m. and South Dakota State at 6 p.m. on day two of the Central Arkansas Invitational.
