Lady Hornets Head To The Bayou For Season Opener

The Alabama State Softball team is prepared to open its season against the University of Missouri-Kansas City in Hammond, La., during the Tangi Tourism Lion Classic at Chappapeela Park, Friday, February 7 at 12:30 p.m.

The Lady Hornets return nine players from last year's squad and will look to start their season off strong. The coaching staff will look for its seniors to step up this season and help motivate the inexperienced players. After a late season run that pushed the Lady Hornets to the SWAC Championship, the team is looking forward on continuing that success.

Alabama State went through pitcher fielding practice and a small scrimmage just to give them an ideal of where they stand.

"The anticipation for this weekend is to see the returners and leaders perform in competition as they have been during the last three weeks of practice," Head Coach Telma O'Neal Hall said. "I am really excited about a few freshmen that have transformed over the past few weeks very well. We haven't played Missouri-Kansas city before, but we're looking forward to a good opening weekend."

The Lady Hornets will also play the University of Akron at 5 p.m. on the first day of the Lion Classic.
