Softball Drops Road Loss To Samford 9-1

Box Score The Alabama State softball team traveled to Birmingham to face the Lady Bulldogs ofSamford on Tuesday evening.

Down 7-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, Samford was able to plate two more runs to close out the Lady Hornets 9-1.

The game was defensive battle for hte first two and a half innings, as both clubs threatened with base runners. Samford got on the board first with three runs in their half of the third inning.

The Lady Hornets would get their only run of the ball game inthe fourht inning when Meagan Dixon, who drew a walk, would score from first on a Kendall Core double to right center.

ASU registerd two hits on the day, the first coming from the the bat of Brittney Wilson with a single to left field.

"We need to get more aggressive at the plate and our pitchers need to make their adjustments sooner," Assistant Coach Alyssa Smoke said. "We will use the nine day lay-off to make sure we are prepared for the round-up."

This was the Lady Hornets last scheduled game leading up to the 2014 SWAC Round-up in Longview, Texas, March 21-23.
