The Alabama State University softball team will host Florida A&M University for a mid-week game
Tuesday, April 1, at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex. The first pitch is set for
5:00 p.m.
This will be the second time this season that the Lady Hornets will face the Lady Rattlers. The two clubs met on March 2
nd, in Birmingham, Ala., while participating in the 2014 Tiny Laster Classic. This has been the only time this season that ASU needed extra innings to finish a contest, with FAMU getting the 12-11 decision.
"We have played FAMU previously and know what to expect and look for from them," Interim Head Coach Alyssa Smoke said. "It will be a good game and both teams will be playing for bragging rights."
In the previous meeting, ASU posted one of their best offensive outputs of the season turning 19 hits into 11 runs with 10 RBIs. The Lady Hornets have matched the runs and hits total on two separate occasions, 11 runs on March 1
st against Miles College (3/1/14); and 10 RBIs against Prairie View A&M (3/23/14).
All season long the Lady Hornets have rallied around the bat of senior
Meagan Dixon, who currently is the SWAC leader in batting avg. (.443), slugging pct. (.911), runs scored (31), home runs (8) and total bases (72). In her last outing against FAMU, Dixon was 3-for-4 (.381) with one walk and two RBI's.
The Lady Hornets are coming off a weekend series against Jackson State, in which JSU swept the Lady Hornets 3-0.
"Coming off a tough loss motivates us to come back and prove ourselves again," Smoke said. "We are looking to come out on top by correcting mistakes from this past weekend and making the necessary adjustments."
