Hornets Lose To Mercer

Waldyvan Estrada had two hits and a run scored in Tuesday's loss to Mercer.

The Alabama State baseball team lost to Mercer 12-4 Tuesday night at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.

Alabama State (24-9) lead 4-3 entering the seventh inning, but committed three errors contributing to nine Mercer runs, which broke the game open.

After the Bears (23-7) scored a run in the first inning, the Hornets scored two in the home half of the inning. Richard Amion led off with a single, stole second base, and scored on Cesar Rivera's triple down the right field line. Rivera then scored on Richard Gonzalez' sacrifice fly for a 2-1 Hornets' lead.

Mercer tied the game in the second inning before the Hornets regained the lead in the third. With one out, Gonzalez hit a solo home run down the left field line for a 3-2 Alabama State lead. Waldyvan Estrada then singled to left, stole second base, and scored on Branden Castro's single to center to give the Hornets a 4-2 lead.

Amion and Estrada each had two hits, and Gonzalez two RBIs for Alabama State.

The Hornets return to action Wednesday hosting Jacksonville State at 6 p.m. at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex. The game will be video streamed live free of charge at bamastatesports.com/showcase.
