Hornets Lose Opener At Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Alabama State baseball team fell to #4Miami 11-1 Friday in the opening game of the three-game weekend series at Alex Rodriguez Park.
 
The Hornets (33-18) had scoring chances early in the game, but could not convert. Alabama State had two runners on with none out in the first inning, and a leadoff double in the second inning, but did not score.
 
Miami (33-16) scored six runs in the first inning to take control of the game.
 
Alabama State scored in the third inning. With one out, Richard Amion walked and Cesar Rivera singled to right field. Waldyvan Estrada singled to left field on a 1-0 pitch for a base hit, driving in Amion from second base. With two outs, Marrero struck out but reached base on a wild pitch to load the bases. However, the Hornets stranded the bases loaded to end the inning.
 
The Hurricanes then scored three runs in the third and two more in the eighth for the final margin.
 
Amion and Rivera each went 2-for-3 for Alabama State, which will play game two Saturday at 6 p.m., with live internet radio on bamastatesports.com/showcase.
