Turnovers plagued Alabama State women's basketball team as they fell to Florida State 91-49,
Saturday during the NCAA Tournament at the Tucker Center.
"We knew coming into this game we were out-manned," said head coach
Freda Freeman-Jackson.  "But I thought it was a great experience for my young ladies to play against Florida State.  With this type of crowd I am glad that they got a chance to experience this atmosphere.
Alabama State finished the season 17-15 on one of the most promising campaigns in a while.
Britney Wright led the charge in scoring and on the boards with 14 points and six rebounds.
Ashanti Spencer added 12 points while
Daniele Ewert had nine and five rebounds.
"The first ten minutes I thought we were in the ball game and they just started wearing us out, causing us to turn the ball over," Freeman-Jackson said.  "The last four or five minutes of the game we turned the ball over and they got into transition and we knew that was one of their strengths."
Florida State had four players in double digits.  Freshman Shakayla Thomas led all players with 17 points, while Maegan Cartwright scored 16, Leticia Romero scored 14 and Ivey Slaughter had 13.
ASU had 32 turnovers that FSU turned into 38 points and had 24 points off of fast breaks.  Alabama State shot 32 percent from the field, while Florida State shot 52 percent from the field.
"Florida State really, really ended up with 14 fast break points and that opened up the game for them," said Freeman-Jackson.  "This was really a great experience and by having a young team,I think them coming here early in their college careers will help motivate the ladies to keep working hard and put more dedication into preseason and postseason conditioning. It was just a really good experience and we're really looking forward to coming back next year."
