The Alabama State baseball team concludes a five-game road trip with midweek games at Auburn Tuesday and Jacksonville State Wednesday.
First pitch for both games is at 6 p.m., with live radio broadcast for both games on bamastatesports.com. Tuesday's game will be video streamed free of charge on the SEC Network + / ESPN3.com platform.
The Hornets (23-11) have won eight consecutive games and 10 of their last 11. Alabama State is coming off a three-game weekend sweep at Southwestern Athletic Conference foe Mississippi Valley State, highlighted by a nine-run six inning to erase a six-run deficit in a 15-11 win.
The Hornet offense has been potent in the past several weeks, scoring six or more runs in 15 consecutive games, 12 of them resulting in victories. As a team, Alabama State is batting .342 during this stretch of games, averaging more than 10 runs per contest with 59 extra-base hits and 15 home runs.
For the season, ASU ranks third in the nation with a .324 batting average behind only Morehead State (.326) and Arizona (.325). The Hornets are second in on-base percentage (.417) and fourth in scoring (8.1 /gm).
"We've done a good job with taking one at-bat at a time, and being selective offensively," Alabama State head coach Mervyl Melendez said. "Our performances have improved due to our approach at the plate and understanding our strengths."
Tuesday is the second meeting of the season between the Hornets and Auburn (21-15), which is coming off a 2-2 week, losing two of three games at top-ranked LSU. Auburn defeated Alabama State 7-5 on February 18 at Plainsman Park.
Wednesday will be the third meeting of the season between the Hornets and Jacksonville State (18-15). Alabama State won both earlier meetings against the Gamecocks in Montgomery, winning 3-1 on March 18 and 10-1 last Tuesday night. Jacksonville State lost two of three games at home this past weekend against Tennessee Tech.
"We're facing good teams that are well coached," Melendez said. "We're looking forward to playing well and continuing to get better. We know how difficult it is to play on the road, so we must be ready to play."
