The Alabama State baseball team will host Jacksonville State Tuesday in a 6 p.m. game at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
Â
All midweek game tickets are just $2 for this second home meeting of the season between the Hornets (19-11) and Gamecocks (16-11). Â Alabama State is currently on a four-game winning streak, after a last Tuesday triumph at Troy followed by a three-game home weekend sweep of Savannah State.
Â
The offense has been explosive during the past 11 games, eight of them Hornet wins. ASU has scored no fewer than six runs per game during that time, batting .339 as a team with 37 extra-base hits. Alabama State has hit at least one home run in eight straight games, the longest streak in the
Mervyl Melendez era, and have homered 10 times in the past 11 contests.
Â
"We continue to improve offensively, having good at bats throughout the game," Melendez said. "Our players are making the necessary adjustments at the plate."
Â
Alabama State defeated Jacksonville State 3-1 on March 18. The Gamecocks scored in the first inning, before the Hornets scored single runs in each of the first three innings and made it hold up in defeating JSU for the second time in series history. Jacksonville State lost two of three games this past weekend at Ohio Valley Conference member Murray State.
Â
"Jacksonville State is a very good team and we played really well the last time and were able to come out with a victory," Melendez said. "I believe they will be more eager this time. We'll have to play with a lot of passion and be very patience and smart offensively."
