HUNTSVILLE, ALA. – After a brief break from conference play after meeting with the SEC's Alabama Crimson Tide on Tuesday, the Lady Hornets get back into SWAC mode when Alabama State travels Friday night at conference rival Alabama A&M (2-16, 1-0 SWAC) with first serve set for 7 p.m.
Rolling in with a little momentum, ASU (6-11, 2-0 SWAC) swept each of its match ups with conference opponents last weekend against Alcorn State and Mississippi Valley before playing competitively at Alabama.
Plenty can be taken away from the Lady Hornets' match against Alabama, especially the third set in which ASU threatened to take a lead down the stretch.
At one point, the Tide held a mere 21-20 lead.
Chelsey Scott played a big role in both SWAC wins, compiling 27 kills over the two matches including a season-best 15 kills in Saturday's victory against the Devilettes.
Scott has averaged 3.62 kills per set on a .535 hitting percentage over her last three matches.
The Bulldogs have been led by Ashundria McNeal, who has a team-best 161 kills (3.66 per set) and 34 total blocks.
Alabama State defeated Alabama A&M in both meetings last season.
The Lady Hornets took the Bulldogs in straight sets last October in Montgomery and then rallied from being down two sets to one to defeat A&M last November in Huntsville.
